First planted with vines by Englishman Joseph Gilbert in 1847 this region has become synonymous with white wines of exceptional quality and reds of greater elegance than the Valley floor. We have two vineyards planted within this subregion, the high altitude Mount Crawford vineyard to the south comprising mainly whites with a small patch of Merlot, and the lower altitude Milton Park site, near Angaston, comprising primarily of red grapes.

Late ripening, high rainfall and with elevations as high as 475 metres above sea level, this 37 ha Eden Valley can easily be confused with the Adelaide Hills – which is after all just across the range.

Its north facing aspect provides much needed warmth in spring and autumn and the tough mountain soil makes the vines work hard to achieve excellent flavour and acid levels.

This site was specially selected as it was considered ideal to grow grape varieties which respond to cold climate. These include Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris, whilst Merlot also grows well in these conditions. The result of this careful site selection is wines which display outstanding varietal character.

milton park

Located in classic Eden Valley country, between Angaston and Keyneton, the Milton Park vineyard has an elevation of between 330 and 400 metres above sea level.

The majority of the 100 hectare vineyard – Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot were sited to maximize fruit exposure to autumn sunshine, while Petit Verdot blocks were chosen for their lower levels of direct sunlight.

Positioned among other world-renowned cool climate Shiraz producers, this is classic red country and we produce some outstanding single vineyard varietals from this vineyard.
